School wide Behavior Plan

East Hamilton Middle School

Schoolwide Behavior Plan

2022-2023

Developed by the RTI2B Committee with structures taken from Benjamin F. Butler Middle School and Krueger Middle School Behavior Plans

A school-wide plan has been developed to teach and encourage positive and productive school behaviors. Students will earn Hurricane stamps that lead to incentives. Discipline policies still apply, but it is our expectation that there will be fewer discipline issues. For district discipline policies, please see the Code of Acceptable Behavior.

Hurricane Stamps

As part of our school wide behavior plan, East Hamilton Middle School has developed school-wide procedures to support implementation.

We will reinforce our Cane’s Commitments.

C: Be Caring and Respectful

A: Accept Responsibility

N: Be Neat and Organized

E: Be Engaged and Enthusiastic

S: Be Safe

The behavioral expectations are taught to all students in a real context. Behavioral expectations are taught using the same teaching methods used in academic curriculum. (Teach, Model, and Practice)

Once appropriate behaviors have been defined and taught they will be acknowledged on a regular basis. East Hamilton Middle School has developed a system that acknowledges expected behavior. This system is outlined in this packet.

When students violate behavioral Expectations they are informed that their behavior is unacceptable. Clear procedures are used to direct students to appropriate behavior. Additional information is included in this packet.

What are Hurricane Stamps?

Hurricane Stamps are a way for all staff to recognize when a student is meeting the expectations of EHMS. We expect our students to follow our Cane’s Commitments throughout the day. Any staff member can acknowledge a student’s positive behavior by giving them a Hurricane Stamp

This is a school-wide effort to positively reinforce all our students for meeting the expectations. All staff will have their Hurricane stamps with them and ready to stamp!

Our Positive Behavior Acknowledgement System

How Parents Can Support the Schoolwide Behavior Support Plan

Your help with the behavior plan is very important and your support sends an important message to your child that we are working together as a team to help him/her be successful in school. We understand that your home environment may have different expectations, but in order to support your child’s success in school, we ask that you support our school’s expectations in the following ways:

  1. Please spend time reviewing the EHMS expectations with your child.

  2. Please remind your child of the EHMS expectations each day before he/she leaves for school.

  3. Our system is consistent and predictable so if your child has earned a consequence please support the decision and do all you can to have your child take responsibility for his/her actions. Your child will be told the reason for the consequence and he/she should be able to tell you what occurred. You will also be contacted by the classroom teacher or a school administrator, depending on the level of the consequence.

  4. When your child gets home from school, talk with them about their day and ask if their behavior was acknowledged with Hurricane Stamps or other privileges. Ask your child what they did to earn Hurricane Stamps. Please offer your child extra praise and reinforcement for these behaviors.

  5. If your child did meet expectations that day, use the Canes Commitments chart as a tool to go over and reinforce expected behaviors.
