Syllabus and Supplies

Dear students and parents,

Welcome to EHMS!  I am excited to be your teacher and see the growth you make this year.

You will be challenged to become active learners and sensemaking scientists by observing, questioning, listening, thinking, exploring, comparing, critiquing, explaining, and analyzing.

Effort is the one thing you can control.  Decide today that you will try even when it is difficult. Facing challenges will help you grow as a learner and a student.

Grading policy:

  • Instructional Tasks (50% Teaching Assessment Tasks): may include instructional tasks such as daily work, exit tickets, teaching tasks and problem/project based learning activities.
  • Assessment Tasks (50% Performance and/or Assessment Tasks): Assessments may include summative unit tests, performance assessments, constructed response tasks, quizzes and problem/project based learning activities.

Grading scale:

90-100% = A

80-89% = B

70-79% = C

60-69% = D

Below 59% = F

How you can check your child’s grades and assignments:

If you do not already have a username and password, you will be getting one the first few weeks of school.  Please check this regularly to see if your child is turning in homework and completing assignments. With this tool, you have access to your child’s progress at any time.  As a parent, it is your responsibility to keep informed of your child’s progress by regularly checking Powerschool.

How you can reach me:

My primary mode of communication is email. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach me at [email protected]. I will always respond within 24 hours.  If you have not heard back from me in 24 hours, please email me again or call me at 423-498-6800. (Sometimes emails get sent to our spam)

Retakes/Corrections: I allow one retake for tests. The retake must be turned in by the due date in order to receive credit. I will not take these late. Because student receive immediate feedback on quizzes and classwork, I typically do not allow retakes for these.  There may be certain times that I allow multiple attempts on certain programs like Quizizz.

Make-up and late work policy: Students will be given 5 days from the date of absence to make up any assignment missed. If a student is absent it is their responsibility to check Canvas for missed assignments.  The 5 day policy is in effect for late work as well.  I do not have to accept late work after 5 days.
